Music therapy is a regulated allied health profession that uses music and therapeutic relationships to support emotional wellbeing, communication, self expression and personal development. Delivered by an HCPC registered Music Therapist, it can benefit children, young people and adults with a wide range of needs and experiences.
At Music Therapy with Beth, our approach is person centred and trauma informed, recognising that every individual engages with therapy differently. Sessions are tailored to each person's strengths, interests and goals, supporting areas such as emotional regulation, communication, confidence, self esteem, identity, resilience and coping skills.
Alongside music making, sessions may include improvisation, songwriting, listening to music, recreating songs, therapeutic play, psychoeducation, therapeutic conversation and the development of practical coping strategies. I also use music technology and accessible equipment to ensure therapy is inclusive and engaging for all.
No musical experience is needed. Music therapy is about using music and creativity as tools for connection, understanding and growth.

Beth is an HCPC-registered Music Psychotherapist working with children, young people, adults and families across education, community and specialist support settings. My practice is grounded in a trauma-informed, person-centred approach, offering a safe and collaborative space for individuals to explore experiences, emotions and relationships through music and other creative and therapeutic approaches.
Beth's training includes a BMus in Music and Popular Music from the University of Wolverhampton and an MA in Music Therapy from the University of Derby. Alongside over ten years of professional experience as a musician, Beth has worked within specialist services supporting children, young people and families affected by domestic and sexual abuse, as well as individuals with learning disabilities and additional needs. Drawing on music therapy, creative arts approaches, play and psychoeducation, Beth adapts her practice to the unique needs and strengths of each individual.
Beth's work is informed by a holistic perspective that recognises the importance of relationships, support networks and individual context. Beth is particularly passionate about incorporating the use of music technology and a variety of accessible forms of musical expression, helping to create therapeutic experiences that are meaningful, inclusive and responsive to each individual's needs.

Beth supports individuals, parent/child, small groups as private work, or contracted work with organisations, schools and professionals.
Music Therapy can be tailored to your specific goals, and we can work together to decide on these goals if you are not sure.
Music Therapy with Beth offers a wide variety of different options. Songwriting, recreating songs, listening to music, improvisation, music technology are just a few things we may explore in therapy. No! You don't have to have any experience with music at all.
Music Therapy is not like a music lesson, and your music will not be marked or assessed.
It is a free space for you to express yourself how you want, or work collaboratively to achieve your goals.
Regularity of sessions can be tailored to individual needs, but typically they take place twice weekly, once weekly or fortnightly.
A therapy session is typically 50 minutes long, but can be shorter, dependant on an individual's needs.
Usually there is an initial session where Beth will meet/discuss on the phone the hopes and goals for therapy. From here, we can discuss routine, schedule and any specifics of the therapy.
Beth can work alongside professionals and organisations to support things such as EHCPs.
Assessment tools and measures may be used to track the progress of the goals of therapy.
Music Therapy with Beth can take place within homes, school, care providers, organisations or any other location you attend.
If you would prefer to attend a therapy office, please get in touch and I can discuss options for local spaces I use.
Therapy contracts and consent forms usually get completed before the first session, however, we can do this in the initial session if preferred.
The first session is usually where we would decide on goals for therapy, do some assessment tools if needed and get to know eachother a bit better. We would also confirm the frequency of sessions.
